The WEC template, though designed particularly for churches, provides an extremely powerful and well documented basis for a website for any community-based organisation. We will install it into your web space on request free of charge.
The Web Empowered Church (WEC) develops a plug-and-play TYPO3 system which is designed to allow churches to have a powerful website up and running quickly.
They do this by creating
- a pre-configured package of TYPO3,
- including a range of useful extensions, and
- several html templates with different designs
- documentation for all of the above which is designed to be comprehensible to non-technical users
They also supply a version which installs the package plus mySQL and Apache to your PC, to allow you to practice in a safe environment.
What if we are not a church?
While the "out of the box" aspect applies only to churches, and perhaps other religious organisations, the templates supplied are nicely designed, and can quickly be adapted for other uses - mainly by changing the pictures and reorganising the page tree.
The package can therefore be used by any community organisation or small business as a starter for its web site.
The package is based on the templavoila templating engine for TYPO3, which makes it easy to modify the appearance of the site simply by integrating a new (X)HTML design or designs. You could integrate more-or-less any realistic design into the package.
A demonstration of the default system is to be found here. You would, of course, modify this to suit the needs of your own organisation. While this is all rather churchy, the facilities included are just what most community-based sites need, and you would be lucky to get them in any other way for less than around £20,000.
