This information is only applicable to versions 7-11 of the Executive Series

Introduction

Windows Vista introduces much more draconian default security settings than previous versions of Windows.

As a result, Windows Vista computers are normally set up by default in such a way that the Gate Seven setup programme leaves them in a state in which they cannot run Gate Seven software such as the Executive Series immediately.

You need to do additional setting up after installation.

These instructions are for stand-alone computers, and assume that you have permissions to install software onto your computer, and to modify access permissions to files and folders.

This will normally be the case if you own a standalone or home computer.

Particularly if you are attached to a corporate network, this may not be the case, and you may need to get your support staff to assist you in the installation process.

Run the setup programme as normal. This will install all the required files into the right places.

If at any point the system asks you if you want to run the setup programme, or install particular files, say "yes"

You then need to modify the permissions of the files within the installation folder - C:\Gate Seven\Gate Seven Multilingual\ if you accepted the default settings.

Locate the installation folder

1. From the Start Button Select Computer
2. Double Click on Local Disk (C:)
3. Double Click on Program Files
4. If necessary, scroll down until you can see the GATE SEVEN folder

Reset the Permissions

1. Right-Click on the GATE SEVEN Folder
2. From the menu which appears select Properties (right at the bottom)
3. In the Properties Dialog, click on the Security tab
4. Click on the Edit button
5. In the list under "Group or user names" click on "Users" (there may be more information to the right of the word Users)
6. In the list of "Permissions for users", under "Allow" click on "Full Control"
   If you are very security conscious, the permissions you actually need to set are Read & execute, List folder contents, Read and Write

You are now ready to go.

You may need to log on to the computer using the Administrator account (which was set up when you installed Windows), and make the changes listed above.
